August In 2012-- Forefront: Digital magazine --Vogue

" No other magazines combine beauty, style, glamour, design, fashion and contemporary cultures in such a inspiring mix. " It is an American fashion and lifestyle magazine that published monthly in 19 national and one regional edition, it was described by book critic Caroline Weber in The New York Times in December 2005 as the " world's most influential fashion magazine." As a world famous magazine, it is now available in iPad, it is different from the traditional printing magazine, it  contains more videos for articles and advertisement, I am simply saying that you can see the beauty lively, more sexy and attractive, it is just a joke! For my additional part of screen exhibition, I got the inspiration from the fashion magazine to create a poster to show the technology of screen developing bring us happiness.

August In 2012-- Evaluation of Design

With the regard to the design style, the core ideology is “simple” and “quality”.  From the consideration of the type of magazine, I don’t prefer to create a colourful and complicated design, it rebelled against the style. My magazine should be neat and I want the page that includes layout, blog, trends and ideas. It is important that various elements on a page to be aligned as much as possible to create a visual flow, making it easier for the audiences to read the page. I choose complete picture as the background for both the cover front and back pages, it is correspond with uniform style. Furthermore, I designed a specific logo for branding in the front page of cover, it was combined with initial letters of “screen culture”, and brand is a necessary part similarity with the soul to a magazine. However, there is something idiosyncratic, irregular, and particular in design, like the layout of the screen exhibition. The inspiration of this page comes from a fashion magazine, female always be attract with the various of model posters, visual sense will be more lively than the words description, that was the original intention of birth of this page. As well as the content, I also create an additional part—poster for magazine. It is a marketing promotion method to attract audiences’ mind and interesting. Cosmetics Company makes the use of the sample sack for product promotion, my poster may be nearly as great. It should be noted that the poster is bright-coloured to achieve the goal of impressive.

August In 2012-- Evaluation of magazine content

“Screen Cultures" contains two meanings standing in my viewpoint: One is focus on the technology developing related to the word "Screen", another is the history developing process for the word “Cultures". Based on those standards, I made the decision to create a magazine including both technology and history content of screen industry. Furthermore, I have designed two different versions both in physical and digital. The inspiration of iPad digital magazine originate from the Symposium related to the forefront, it is an advanced improvement through the whole project.
With regard to the content, it is divided into three sections: Review of history, Steve Jobs profile and the Future things will be use. I arrange the content according to the time order: Past, Present and Future. This arrangement seems like more organized and accessible. On account of the popularity in screen industry I select touch screen as the main object of content both in the Past and Future page. For the Review history, I choose each important moment of touch screen from generated to evolution. Due to the widely use and successful of Apple product at present, I set aside a page for the genius of Apple Company—Steve Jobs to represent the real situation of screen developing. According to his fame and popularity, it will be more likely to be accepted by audiences and arouse sympathy. In addition, I create a screen exhibition for various forms of screen to attracting a broader set of people.

"New Scientist covers the latest developments in science and technology that will impact your world." It is a iPad magazine most related to my project in the content and design style." It covers current developments, new, and commentary from the scientific community, including environmental issues such as climate change. It also prints speculative articles, ranging from the technical to the philosophical." On account of the type of this magazine, it is quite different from the fashion magazine, science and technology magazine should be simple fashion design, but not colourful and complicated, that's the common point with my magazine.

August In 2012-- Page for cover of magazine layout

I create six circles to contain the logo and articles' headline and arrange them both in front and back. There is a section to quote the beginning of the story, and start with the " Time Travel" to attract people's interesting, it is recognized as the selling point if it is a real magazine. Meanwhile I put the fictitious bar code and my blog website to enrich the completeness of a magazine.

August In 2012-- The cover of magazine

It spend plenty of time to create the cover of my magazine, including the branding, logo and style. Originally, I create two different style and pages for the cover front and back. However I changed my mind to unify the two pages' style look. It seems like more professional and perfect, I changed the original idea for designing the promotion poster of screen cultures magazine.

August In 2012-- Page for the Future of Screen

It is a page created for the future possible of screen developing, it is a little different from the other pages in the magazine. Firstly, I quote a paragraph of words from Tim Bajarin who is recognized as one of the leading industry consultants, analysts and futurists, covering the field of personal computers and consumer technology. It laid the foundation for my opinion about the screen technology developing. I prepared a fantastic short story to present the future development prospect in our daily life, it is interesting and quite fresh to attract audiences' mind. Magazine is a way for entertainment, though people want to get the information, it is different from coursebook, it should be lively and relaxed, that was the purpose to choose the story form to this article. The article is as follows:

Tim Bajarin is recognized as one of the leading industry consultants, analysts and futurists, covering the field of personal computers and consumer technology. Mr. Bajarin is the President of Creative Strategies, Inc and has been with the company since 1981 where he has served as a consultant providing analysis to most of the leading hardware and software vendors in the industry.

“The future of personalized computing will not be limited to our PCs, tablets or smart phones. In our digital future, we will have all types of screens in our lives that are tied to the cloud and can be used to access our digital stuff. In fact, with companies like Corning working on flexible displays, I fully expect to someday have a screen on my arm that’s like a bracelet. The screen would connect to the Internet and could even be smart, but more likely it would serve as another gateway to my personal cloud. Google’s Project Glass represents another screen that I could use to access my stuff in the cloud as needed. The future of personalized computing is a future where we will have all types of screens in our lives and the one that is the most important is the one that is closest at hand at the time someone needs access to their cloud.”

With the development of technology, we cannot be sure about what screen can be to us because it is so changeable, no matter in the size or form of expression, it can be a “real” product or virtual. “Think different” is an advertising slogan for Apple Computer, Steve Jobs purposely used this phrase to get people’s attention to looking at the world from a different perspective. On account of this kind of spirit, Apple has designed and created a series of products like iPhone, iPod and IPad, the technology has been made a huge contribution people’s daily life. Apple was granted a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a new screen technology that could potentially make the next-generation iPhone thinner and lighter. “Current touch-screen technology places the touch sensitive elements of the screen over the liquid crystal display. The Cupertino-based company’s patent, however, describes a variety of ways in which a touch-screen’s touch sensitive technology could be integrated within the actual LCD screen.” The portable of screen occupy an important position in today’s technology competition. In the development of science and technology today, touch-screen provides amounts of benefit and convenient to us, however it still existing some disadvantages. For example, Input errors increase while typing speed decreases for most touch-screen users. In the meantime, it is difficult to know when a “button” was pushed on a completely flat touch-screen. It is more difficult to editing photos in touch-screen especially for the exactly size, majority of touch-screen users have the same experience. Recently the sensitivity and accuracy of touch-screen will be paid more attention that can be satisfied with customers’ demand.

The Future-- Possible Development of Screen

It’s 2020, the sun is shining brightly, you are staring at the clock. You get up to the washing room , while you are brushing your teeth it appears the entire day schedule at the top of you mirror, and the time remaining is absolutely at the bottom of it. In the meantime, all the useful information related to you appearing in the middle, including weather, business, entertainment, of course about the gossip news for pleasure. Beauty is always the central concern for a woman. You open your clothes press stand before the screen, the “virtual fitting room” project a 3D image of the item of clothing, only 5 minutes you solve the dress up headache, no matter you want sexy dancer, office lady or Barbie doll. There’s a meeting alarm from you iPad, you need catch up the early bus for working, you roll up you iPad in your handbag. Where is your cell phone? It has combined with you Ipad and Ipod, it seems like the “Transformers”. The Bus Time is always as dry as dust, you take out you IPad and switch it to the physically, listen to the music, watch a short video, Face time with your boyfriend, don’t worry it is charging its battery through a built-in organic solar cell. It is arrived, oh, 10 minutes left, need a coffee to wake up, there is a nearby Starbucks on the corner. Its appealing smell and inviting atmosphere are difficult to resist, you come to the Cashier and look into the mirror, the makeup looks spotless, one moment you get your cappuccino without sugar as usual. The coffee shop stores the customers’ material and combined with Face Recognition System, it is an effective way to save time and human resources. Work is the beginning of a busy and enrich day, enjoy. That’s my vision of the future development of screen technology, and it brings the vision of the future close to reality, not the remote allusions.

August In 2012-- Page for Screen Exhibition

This is an additional page including in my magazine, it seems like an advertisement poster as the usual magazine, but it is not for benefit. I select represent products from each different time, actually I want to make my magazine more completely like a real one then I designed for this page. I give the headline of " Technology bring us happiness" to show the importance of screen technology in our daily life. Each of the photos related in this page has been edited and selected carefully, I try me best to present a good vision effective, I use the software of photoshop and Illustrator for designing.

August In 2012-- Page for the Steve Jobs of Magazine

Steve Jobs was a genius for Apple company, large amounts of amazing products created with the help of him. I choose him as the profile page including my magazine, not only for his fame and reputation, the Apple products give a huge contribution to screen developing, especially for touch screen which is related to my topic. I introduced the distinguished contribution of Steve Jobs, including iPhone, iPad, iOS system and something else in different filed. Majority of the audiences want to know how to be a genius and the successful process of those kind of people, it will be attractive and interesting as a article. The article of my magazine is as follow:

Steve Jobs was an American businessman and technology visionary. He is best known as the co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Company. Jobs changed the world, he will be remembered not just for those fabulous products he helped to create, but the long lasting impact to the gaming, technology, and entertainment industries caused by his genius work. Job's most important contribution to the video games industry is the introduction of the company's mobile operating system: iOS. Steve jobs is one of the inventors of iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and iOS system, with his works, he helped to create the most successful mobile gaming platform on the market. The most important thing about iOS is, it made games easier to access to a much wider array of people than ever before. With the built in app store software of the OS, you can get thousands of games just by a few touches of your mobile phone screen. And with its simple, touch and motion- enabled control system, it's easy for everyone to play, it doesn’t matter how old you are. Before the Revolutionary iPod, in the year of 1984, apple released the first commercially available personal computer came with a graphical user interface ever, the Macintosh. Though hardly created by Jobs himself, his contribution for popularizing the concepts of a desktop interface and mouse controls cannot be forgotten. In the same year, Steve Jobs was ousted the Board of directors of the company, he was not the CEO of apple anymore. After that Jobs founded a new company called NeXT Computer in 1996, which innovated the concept of multimedia email, allowing users to embed and transfer audio, images, and video in messages. When we talking about digital media, there is nothing more influential than the iPod and the iTunes software, and both the development has been leaded by Steve Jobs himself. And it was him made them household words. With the introduction of the iPod in 2001, Apple started a revolution of the digital world: consumers now can carry thousands of their collections just within a cigarette-case-sized device in their pocket. Just like what Steve Jobs did with the Macintosh, he leaded the development of the iPhone, which was the first Smartphone to provide a rich graphical interface, touch screen controls, desktop-quality mobile web browsing and email access, and media support in one compact handset. As monumental as these contributions were, they are just a few of what was a lifetime of innovation and exceptional foresight. As monumental as these contributions were, they are just a few of what was a lifetime of innovation and exceptional foresight. Nonetheless, Jobs and Apple have been integral in the evolution of computing as we know it and ,today Apple is not just a technology company, it is a lifestyle. When it came to put on a show, nobody else in the computer industry, or any any other industry for that matter, could match Steve Jobs. Whatever the true source of his success, there was more than a touch of genius about Jobs, there are amounts of treasures that we can learn from his wisdom and life.

July In 2012-- Change the idea to create a diary notebook for Documentation

It is a modification related to documentation. Originally I want to create two forms both in digital and physical in documentation. However I found it is useless in fact, I saved all the details during the design process, it is more effective and  directly to show the photos in the creation process. Compare with the physical diary notebook, they are the same thing, and blog can present it more lively and completely.

July In 2012-- Tutorial In July

It is a necessary and meaningful to project, it gives me the direction through my overall situation. According to the discussion and suggestion from Ivan, I was required to write there articles including one 1000 words and two 500 words. Based on my description of my ideas, Ivan gave there possible of my articles: 1. profile of a person, she or he should be famous in screen field; 2. a review of technology related to screen filed; 3. the future possible. It was clearly to show what need I do for my magazine. Meanwhile, I need create the " Branding" for my artefact, the style, content and audience should also be taken into consideration. Ivan suggest me to search for the mock-up cover design style as a sample, the representative one is " DUMMIES", it is more related to my project in the style.

July In 2012- Research (3)

Continued with the content decision, I am planning to select the material and target for my magazine. Touch screen is fashion trend in recent years, the representative products were designed by Apple Company-- iPhone, iPod, iPad and iTouch. In the meantime, the name of Steve Jobs was widely spread in the world as Apple product. It will be a amiable topic to most of readers. I set up the audiences' age above 15 years old, there is no limit with the sexual and education background. It should be a life-style and popularization of science magazine, that means it is suitable for the public.

July In 2012 -- The first Symposium: strategies of documentation

Today we held the first practice presentation to explaining how to managing the process of documentation. I am preparing two form of documentation: digital for Blogger, physical for a diary note. Actually both of them is ready for recording my progress of magazine creating, Blogger is focus on the details and ideas for content, diary note is focus on the image layout and design style in vision sense. According to the classmates presentation, especially for some animation major students, they provided adequate and reliable system for the documentation, I have got a lot of ideas and experience from them, it is a good harvest to me.

July In 2012- Research (2)

To create a complete magazine, it should be including cover, content, Journalism articles and brand logo. It needs comprehensive abilities in designing, writing skills and selective power.  The topic for my artefact is around screen cultures, it is belong with science and technology magazine. I don't want to make a old-fashioned science magazine, " make innovation" is an absolutely advantage for competition.  Take the skills and ability into consideration, I want to divided my content into there sections: history, current situation and future vision. It is the main clue through my magazine, in addition I am planning to create an advertisement page for particular or existence screen products. It is a way to enrich my magazine in content.
